Amid reports of overcharging by private hospitals for Covid-19 treatment, the Union Health Ministry on Monday directed states to engage with the sector to ensure fair and transparent charges for services provided. The ministry also asked the states and union territories to facilitate enhanced bed availability and critical care health facilities. The government said that some states have already taken initiatives in this regard. They have reached an agreement with the private sector on reasonable rates and arrangements to provide critical care for in-patient admissions. A non-government body urged the Gautam Buddh Nagar administration on Monday to reduce the cost of the coronavirus test and regulate the treatment charge at private facilities. Similar requests have been made across the country.
