Topic Description:

Registration of marriage is seen as a tool to safeguard rights of spouses in case of dissolution of the marriage. The Bill provides for registration of marriages of Non-resident Indians (NRIs).Currently, it is difficult to enforce spousal rights for individuals who enter into marriage with NRIs where they are often abandoned or face fraud. The purpose of the Bill is to ensure safeguards ito protect those spouses from painful situations.
