Topic Description:

The Finance Minister, in her 2020 Budget Speech, stated her intention to bring a scheme which provides a mechanism to resolve pending direct tax disputes. She subsequently introduced the Direct Tax Vivaad se Vishwas Bill in Lok Sabha on 5th February. The Bill establishes a resolution process by which income and corporate tax disputes can be settled. According to the Statement of Objects and Reasons of the Bill, Rs. 9 lakh crore are locked up in tax disputes.
