आर्थिक मामलों की कैबिनेट समिति ने कोयला खनन और कारोबार को निजी क्षेत्र के लिए खोलने का फैसला किया है। इससे देश में कोयला उत्पादन बढ़ने और कोयला आयात में कमी आने की उम्मीद है। सरकार का कहना है कि इस क़दम से कोयला क्षेत्र में निवेश और रोज़गार के अवसर बढ़ेंगे।

The cabinet committee on economic affairs (CCEA) on 20th Feb approved the methodology for auctioning coal blocks for commercial mining by the private sector. Allowing the private sector to enter coal mining is expected to lift supplies and moderate prices while boosting investment. Non-state coal mining had thus far been allowed only for captive use.
