Founding Day of Congress Socialist Party
The Congress Socialist Party (CSP) was born within the Congress on May 17, 1934, in Patna with Acharya Narendra Dev as president and Jayaprakash Narayan (JP) as general secretary. It's joint secretaries were Minoo Masani , Mohan Lal Gautam, N G Gorey and EMS namboodaripad.
Before this, The first All India Congress Socialist Conference was held at the Anjuman Islamia Hall, Patna, on the 17th May, 1934 . It was presided over by aacharya Narendra Dev .
Congress socialist party's founder members were : Dr.
Sampurnanand , Acharya Narendra Dev , Jai Prakash Narayan and Minoo Masani.
It's joint secretaries were Minoo Masani , Mohan Lal Gautam, N G Gorey and EMS
namboodiripad.
It's members were : Ram Manohar Lohia , achyut patvardhan , Ashok Mehta , kamladevi chattopadhyay, SM Joshi , purushottam tricumdas, Yusuf meherally , P y Deshpande.
Congress socialist party's beginning can be traced to a preliminary consultation held at Patna in May 1934, where an organising committee was formed with Jayaprakash Narayan as convener. This was followed by the regular all-India conference held in Bombay in October where the constitution of the party was adopted.
Among the voluminous material on the birth and development of the Congress Socialist Party, a prominent place should be given to a book written by Jaya Prakash Narayan under the title, Why Socialism.
To draft the Party’s constitution, policy and programme a draft committee was constituted under the Chairmanship of Acharya Narendra Deva and Jayaprakash Narayan as Secretary.
Following were the members of the committee. Prof. Abdul Bari, Purshottam Tricumdas, Minoo Masani, Sampurnanand, C.C. Banerji, Faridul Haq Ansari, Rammanohar Lohia, Prof. Abdul Aleem, N.G. Ranga.
Objectives and work program of congress socialist party :
Congress socialist party wanted to liberate india from external as well as internal enemies. It declared that it would act under the aegis of INC. it's primary objective was to outroot British imperialism and empowerment of labourers , farmers and other vulnerable calss of the society . It has a defined work program . Party members focused on the objectives like Abolition of capitalism, Abolition of zamindari system, Abolition of princely states, Incorporate radical socio-economic measures for the upliftment of distressed people into the Congress work programme.
Congress socialist party had a specific vision for its work program to achieve their socialist goals . These were :
Abolition of class division in the society to ensure the materalization of an egalitarian society ,
Transfer of all power to the masses, Development of economy to be planned and controlled by the state,
Socialization of key Industries such as railways, steel, cotton, jute etc. State monopoly of foreign trade, Organisation of cooperative societies for production, distribution and financing the unorganized sector,
Abolition of titles with compensation for princes, landlords, and all other exploiters, Redistribution of land among the peasants, Cooperative and collective farming to be encouraged an and controlled by the state.
