UAE became the fifth country in the world and the first Arab one to reach Mars through Hope probe that entered Mars orbit on 9th February.

About

UAE’s Hope Probe created history in the Arab world by entering into the orbit of red planet. The control room of the Mohammed Bin Rashid Space Centre announced the successful entry of Hope probe into the mars orbit.

The data that will be collected from the Emirates Mars Mission, known as the Hope Probe, will help scientists understand the planetary mysteries and support future missions. Hope probe will start observing the red planet’s climate for 687 Earth days. It will stay in service till four years to study the climate of mars and to a lot of research that could benefit our world.

Objectives of the Emirates Mars Mission (EMM) or Hope Probe

  1. Understand climate dynamics and the global weather map through characterizing the lower atmosphere of Mars.
  2. Explain how the weather changes the escape of Hydrogen and Oxygen through correlating the lower atmosphere conditions with the upper atmosphere.
  3. Understand the structure and variability of Hydrogen and Oxygen in the upper atmosphere, as well as identifying why Mars is losing them into space.

WHY ARE WE EXPLORING MARS?

The red planet has captured human imagination for centuries. Now, we are at a junction where we know a great deal about the planet, and we have the vision and technology to explore further. Mars is an obvious target for exploration for many reasons. From our pursuit to find extra-terrestrial life to someday expand human civilization to other planets, Mars serves as a long-term and collaborative project for the entire human race.
