Interpol issued Orange notice to check fake coronavirus vaccines Nexus across the globe
The Lyon-based international police cooperation body recently warned law enforcement agencies of its 194 member countries to prepare for potential criminal activity in relation to “the falsification, theft and illegal advertising of Covid-19 and flu vaccines”.
For handling this situation Interpol issued Orange Notice as a Global Warning to its member countries. Findings of Interpol in this regard include :
- organised criminal networks could try to advertise and sell fake Covid-19 vaccines physically and on the internet.
- to prepare for potential criminal activity in relation to “the falsification, theft and illegal advertising of Covid-19 and flu vaccines”.
- It also includes examples of crimes where individuals have been advertising, selling and administering fake vaccines.
- Criminal networks will also be targeting unsuspecting members of the public via fake websites and false cures, which could pose a significant risk to their health, even their lives.
- The Interpol cybercrime unit has analysed that of 3,000 websites associated with online pharmacies suspected of selling illicit medicines and medical devices, around 1,700 contained cyber threats, especially phishing and spamming malware making such operators even more potent of causing financial and health harms.
Types of Notice issued by Interpol :
Red Notice: To seek the location and arrest of wanted persons wanted for prosecution or to serve a sentence.
Yellow Notice: To help locate missing persons, often minors, or to help identify persons who are unable to identify themselves.
Blue Notice: To collect additional information about a person’s identity, location or activities in relation to a crime.
Black Notice: To seek information on unidentified bodies.
Green Notice: To provide warning about a person’s criminal activities, where the person is considered to be a possible threat to public safety.
Orange Notice: To warn of an event, a person, an object or a process representing a serious and imminent threat to public safety.
Purple Notice: To seek or provide information on modus operandi, objects, devices and concealment methods used by criminals.
INTERPOL–United Nations Security Council Special Notice: Issued for groups and individuals who are the targets of UN Security Council Sanctions Committees.
Silver Notice : Interpol has introduced a new system of international alert titled “Silver Notice” on a pilot basis to assist member countries in locating and seizing assets acquired through criminal means.
“The notice, which will help identify, monitor, freeze and confiscate assets, is expected to promote international action and enhance the speed of recovery of assets located in foreign jurisdiction.
