Europe Sustainable Development Report (ESDR) , 2020

The Nordics achieved top rankings once again in recently released Europe Sustainable Development Report (ESDR) , 2020 : – Finland (1), Sweden (2), Denmark (3), Norway (5), Iceland (11). Austria was ranked 4th while Germany was ranked 6th in the list . This time, in the Europe Sustainable Development Report (ESDR) 2020 for meeting the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) in the face of the COVID-19 pandemic.

The Nordic Region consists of Denmark, Norway, Sweden, Finland, and Iceland, as well as the Faroe Islands, Greenland, and Åland.

The ESDR report was prepared by teams of independent experts at the Sustainable Development Solutions Network (SDSN) and the Institute for European Environmental Policy (IEEP).

Countries are ranked by their overall score. The overall score measures a country's total progress towards achieving all 17 SDGs. The score can be interpreted as a the percentage of SDG achievement. A score of 100 indicates that all SDGs have been achieved.

What is sustainable development ?

Sustainable development is development that meets the needs of the present without compromising the ability of future generations to meet their own needs.

Sustainable development has been defined in many ways, but the most frequently quoted definition is from Our Common Future published in 1987 , also known as the Brundtland Report : "Sustainable development is development that meets the needs of the present without compromising the ability of future generations to meet their own needs."

Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs):

The 17 SDGs were adopted by all United Nations Member States in 2015, with 169 targets to reach by 2030. The goals and targets are universal, meaning they apply to all countries around the world, not just poor countries.

The 17 sustainable development goals (SDGs) to transform our world:
