About
The National Bamboo Mission and the Government e-Marketplace (GeM) have been working since long for having an exclusive window on the GeM portal for marketing of the Bamboo Goods (Bamboo based products & Quality Planting Materials).
This window will provide an electronic platform for the small manufacturers and big sellers thereby enormously increasing their reach to pull buyers and at the same time will provide niche products from trusted sources to the buyers, thus providing a win-win situation for both. Bamboo is being used for vast range of products and kitchen ware could be a much healthy alternative to the utensils prevalent these days. It is expected that this pan India platform would prove to be very beneficial for giving the bamboo entrepreneurs a much robust market outreach.
‘The Green Gold Collection’, a special initiative of the National Bamboo Mission and GeM, exhibits a range of well crafted bamboo and bamboo products, handicrafts, disposable and office utility products on the GeM portal, and intents to provide bamboo artisans, weavers and entrepreneurs in rural areas with market entry to Government buyers.
Product categories ranging from bamboo poles to bamboo products in furniture, lifestyle & décor, kitchenware, industrial machinery, handcrafted items such as toys and office utility items etc. are being uploaded on the portal for Government buyers. This initiative aspires to promote the endorsement and use of bamboo products among Government buyers and lead a sustainable rural economy for an Atmanirbhar Bharat.
National Bamboo Mission (NBM)
NBM is a centrally sponsored scheme started in 2006-07. The main objective was to address issues relating to the evolution and expansion of the bamboo industry in the country, provide a new energy and direction and enable the accomplishment of India’s considerable potential in bamboo production.
It is discerned that the emphasis of NBM has, largely been on propagation and cultivation of bamboo, with limited efforts on processing, product development and value addition but this window will prove to be a step ahead in this direction.
GeM
Government e-Marketplace (GeM) owes its genesis to the recommendations of two Groups of Secretaries made to the Prime Minister in January 2016. They recommended setting up of a dedicated e-market for different goods & services procured or sold by Government/PSUs besides reforming Directorate General of Supplies and Disposals (DGS&D). GeM is dynamic, self sustaining and user friendly portal for making procurement by Government officers.
Public procurement forms a very important part of Government activity and reform in Public Procurement is one of the top priorities of the present Government. Government e-Marketplace (GeM - gem.gov.in) is a very bold step of the Government with the aim to transform the way in which procurement of goods and services is done by the Government Ministries and Departments, Public Sector Undertakings and other apex autonomous bodies of the Central Government.
