No New Road Projects in Maha Tiger Corridors without Complying with NTCA Plan: NGT

IN NEWS

• The National Green Tribunal has said that the Ministry of Road Transport and Highways cannot proceed with new road projects in tiger corridors in Maharashtra without complying with the action plan prepared by the National Tiger Conservation Authority.

NATIONAL TIGER CONSERVATION AUTHORITY

• The National Tiger Conservation Authority is a statutory body under the Ministry of Environment, Forests and Climate Change constituted under enabling provisions of the Wildlife (Protection) Act, 1972, as amended in 2006, for strengthening tiger conservation, as per powers and functions assigned to it under the said Act.
• The National Tiger Conservation Authority has been fulfilling its mandate within the ambit of the Wildlife (Protection) Act, 1972.

NATIONAL GREEN TRIBUNAL

• The National Green Tribunal has been established on 18.10.2010 under the National Green Tribunal Act 2010 for effective and expeditious disposal of cases relating to environmental protection and conservation of forests and other natural resources including enforcement of any legal right relating to environment and giving relief and compensation for damages to persons and property and for matters connected therewith or incidental thereto.
• The Tribunal is mandated to make and endeavor for disposal of applications or appeals finally within 6 months of filing of the same. Initially, the NGT is proposed to be set up at five places of sittings and will follow circuit procedure for making itself more accessible. New Delhi is the Principal Place of Sitting of the Tribunal and Bhopal, Pune, Kolkata and Chennai shall be the other four place of sitting of the Tribunal.

Mongolian Kanjur Manuscripts

Why in NEWS ?

• The Ministry of Culture has taken up the project of reprinting of 108 volumes of Mongolian Kanjur under the National Mission for Manuscripts (NMM).

About

• The first set of five volumes of Mongolian Kanjur published under the NMM was presented to the President of India Shri Ram Nath Kovind on the occasion of Guru Purnima, also known as Dharma Chakra Day, on 4th July 2020.
• A set was then handed over to His Excellency Mr. Gonching Ganbold, Ambassador of Mongolia to India.
• It is expected that all the 108 volumes of the Mongolian Kanjur will be published by March, 2022.

Mongolian Kanjur

• Buddhist canonical text in 108 volumes is considered to be the most important religious text in Mongolia.
• In the Mongolian language ‘Kanjur’ means ‘Concise Orders’- the words of Lord Buddha in particular.
• Held in high esteem by the Mongolian Buddhists and they worship the Kanjur at temples and recite the lines of Kanjur in daily life as a sacred ritual.
• Kanjur are kept almost in every monastery in Mongolia.
• Translated from Tibetan.
• The language of the Kanjur is Classical Mongolian.
• is a source of providing a cultural identity to Mongolia.

National Mission for Manuscripts

• Launched in February 2003.
• Under the Ministry of Tourism and Culture.

Objective

• To publish rare and unpublished manuscripts so that the knowledge enshrined in them is spread to researchers, scholars and general public at large.
• Under this scheme, reprinting of 108 volumes of Mongolian Kanjur has been taken up by the Mission.
