India has successfully carried out field firing trials of its new indigenous light tank 'Zorawar', which is highly capable of deployment in high altitude areas.
About it
- Zorawar has been developed by the Combat Vehicles Research & Development Establishment (CVRDE), a unit of the Defence Research & Development Organisation (DRDO), in collaboration with Larsen & Toubro Ltd.
- It is named after the 19th century Dogra general Zorawar Singh, who led military campaigns in Ladakh and western Tibet.
- The tank will be able to cross steep hills and water bodies like rivers with much more ease than its predecessor heavyweight T-72 and T-90 tanks.
