Context-

A state-of-the-art Submersible Platform for Acoustic Characterisation and Evaluation (SPACE) was inaugurated at Underwater Acoustic Research Facility, in Kerala.

Key Features

  • Set Up by:  The Naval Physical & Oceanographic Laboratory of DRDO.
  • Purpose: To serve as a testing and evaluation hub for sonar systems used by the Indian Navy across various platforms including ships, submarines, and helicopters.
  • Two Assemblies: Surface platform and submersible platform (up to 100 m depth)
  • Evaluation Hub: Testing of sonar systems for Navy vessels
  • Quick Deployment: Easy recovery of scientific equipment

  • Evaluation of complete sonar systems
  • Surveying air, surface, mid-water, and reservoir floor parameters
  • Utilization of modern instrumentation for data collection
